Abstract
This issue of Neuropharmacology is devoted to the topic of cognitive enhancers, arguably one of the most contentious issues in modern neuroscience: could we, should we, pharmacologically enhance human cognitive performance? If so, who should benefit? Only those with congenital, acquired, or age-related cognitive dysfunction? Anyone who can afford to? Or everyone, via the water supply, for example? Should those responsible for the lives of others, such as doctors, surgeons and airline pilots, be compelled to take cognitive enhancers? Will employers demand their employees take them in an attempt to improve productivity?
