Abstract

This paper is about the role of faith communities in urban transformation. It discusses empirical examples from research in the UK. The larger part of the paper, however, concerns the concepts and theoretical frames appropriate for research questions on urbanism that admit "faith" as a substantive cultural phenomenon. It is particularly interested in communities that (i) maintain an explicit or implicit vision for a ‘transformed’ urban environment, and (ii) engage in religious or faith-generated practices to that end. The paper aims to present faith in terms of creative cultural production.
