Abstract
The two topics of sexuality and Holocaust are connected by profound discomfort but also by immense public interest. Resonating with Elizabeth Heineman’s description of sexuality and Nazism as ‘doubly unspeakable’, these two poles—stigma and fascination—are interconnected, each engendering the other’s power and pull.1 How are we to make sense of this lasting potency? This Special Issue of German History examines how stigma connected to sexuality in the Holocaust is created and maintained and what purposes it serves.
