Abstract
We consider polynomial mappings from IR² to IR², and show that those of degree less than any integer k exhibit finitely many local topological types at 0, and that the proper polynomial mappings of degree less than k which are not singular everywhere exhibit finitely many global topological types. We explicitly construct the local types for the mappings which are not singular everywhere. Applications to Jet spaces and mappings between compact 2-manifolds are outlined.
