Abstract
This project seeks to shed light on the experiences of mixed race people who have lived or grown up in Coventry, and the ways in which they understand and negotiate notions of race and experiences of racialisation. As an underrepresented field site for the current discourse which captures the experiences of mixed race people, this work considers the historical and sociopolitical context of the city of Coventry as a central factor in the shaping of people’s experiences of race. The role of the familial is also considered as significant when trying to better understand mixed race people’s experiences of race, with both the context of the city and the familial accumulating in the experience of the individual. Informed by feminist and postcolonial approaches to knowledge production and qualitative research methods, this research demonstrates the multiplicity of mixed race experiences.
