Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides organizations with novel opportunities and challenges, both of which are distinctive from those of digital technologies. With increasing adoptions and implementations of AI, organizations should understand the mechanisms, under which AI can empower different capabilities. The emergence of data-driven strategy has witnessed disruptive impact from business venturing models. It is imperative for organizations to become agile for the fast-changing environment, to effectively deploy existing and potential resource, and to formulate an adequate transparency strategy.
In this thesis, three papers accommodate respective impacts of AI on organizations (organizational agility, redeployment of resource slack, transparency). Each paper contributes new understandings to previous theorizing of the concepts. All three papers together offer an overall interpretation of how AI exerts impacts on organizations. Given the emerging role of AI in operation and strategy, this thesis uncovers the emerging mechanisms where organizational agility and resource slack are reconceptualized; and elaborates on the transparency of utilizing AI.
