Boswood, Siobhan and Roesner, Stefan (2024) Methodologies for the synthesis of β-carbolines. Targets in Heterocyclic Systems, 27 (1).
Abstract
β-Carbolines are an important class of heterocyclic compounds that are widely distributed in nature, being found in several families of naturally occurring alkaloids. Due to their diverse biological activities, the synthesis of β-carbolines is of high importance. Besides traditional methodologies, like the Pictet-Spengler and the Bischler-Napieralski reaction, many alternative strategies have been developed for the synthesis of the β-carboline motif. This review summarizes methodologies and strategies for the synthesis of β-carbolines published between 2000 and 2021.
