Abstract
An 8-bit digital, ultrasound, phased-array controller is described which permits adjustment of array element phase to within 1.4-degrees under digital computer control: the phase controller requires only three chips per array channel. Preliminary results on ultrasound beam steering from a 21 element, 1 MHz, array are presented and show that beam steering is essentially exact over the range 0-20-degrees and deviates by only 0.5-degrees at a 25-degrees steering angle.
