Abstract
This study tests the thesis that ordained local ministers (OLMs) display a different psychological temperament compared with professional stipendiary parish clergy. Drawing on temperament theory proposed by Keirsey and Bates, data provided by 39 OLMs serving in a mixed urban and rural diocese displayed a much higher proportion of Epimethean temperament (SJ) and a lower proportion of Apollonian temperament (NF). The implications of these findings are discussed for the distinctive strengths to be found among ordained local ministers.
