Abstract
Vernalisation has been defined as the acquisition or acceleration of the ability to flower by a chilling treatment. It is believed to be a trait under epigenetic control. We present a mathematical model of the gene interactions that control this process in Arabidopsis thaliana. We show that our model reproduces qualitatively the behaviour of the wild-type plants and of a number of mutant plants carrying various defects in the vernalisation response pathways.
