Abstract
Brain imaging studies have provided evidence that very slow neuronal oscillations (<0.5 Hz) are consistently present during different resting states and during task-related activity. This work presents a blind source separation methodology for investigating the functional role of these slow waves in electroencephalographic (EEG) data. Results suggest that both the amplitude and phase of the extracted sources in this frequency band exhibit a significant difference between rest and task
conditions, which is in keeping with the view that these slow waves affect resting-state and cognitive brain processes differently.
