Abstract

Peter Swann has played a major role in developing the economics of innovation as a thriving field of study. His research has made key contributions in a number of core areas in innovation economics. There are few scholars who have been as active in promoting innovation economics, through their academic writing and editing, and in guiding generations of graduates through outstanding teaching, supervising, and mentoring. As important are Peter’s contributions to policy research and his interactions with senior policy-makers in business and in government, both in the UK and in Europe. It was for his services to business and economic policy that Peter was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2005.
