Abstract
This thesis consists of four papers:
1. On the fundamental group of an orbit space
2. Transversality for piecewise linear manifolds
3. Transversality for polyhedra
4. Extending triangulations
At the beginning of each paper there is an introduction which contains a survey of the problems to be tackled, and statements of the main results obtained. Each paper is presented in a form suitable for publication.
