Abstract

Dynamical zeta functions, by analogy with their more famous counterparts in number theory, are a useful tool to study certain types of dynamical systems. An important application is to the geodesic flow on a negatively curved surface. For surfaces of constant negative curvature the properties of the Selberg zeta function have been well understood for over half a century. However, understanding the properties of the
corresponding zeta function for the more general setting of surfaces of variable negative curvature benefits from this more dynamical viewpoint.
