Abstract
El presente artículo explora la figura del “scold” (mujer gruñona e irascible), un tipo de transgresión femenina poco estudiada por la crítica, especialmente durante el siglo XVIII, a pesar de estar presente en la literatura inglesa desde medidados del siglo XVI. Para ello, el trabajo indaga el uso de los términos «scold» y «scolding» y su evolución a lo largo del siglo a través de los discursos y prácticas aparecidos en la prensa inglesa de la época, así como su equivalencia y manifestación en el contexto español. Con todo ello, pretendemos demostrar que, más allá de una mera transgresión moral, el castigo y la censura de este tipo de comportamientos supusieron en realidad un intento por silenciar la voz femenina y restablecer, de esta manera, el orden social tradicional.
