Abstract
The problems associated with Northern Rock Plc debacle brought to the fore the limits of the UK deposit insurance system both in terms of its coverage but also the level of public awareness of deposit insurance. This article attempts to first of all revisit the position of the depositor creditors' and then review critically the UK position in the light of international guidance on deposit insurance and public awareness devised by the International Association of Deposit Insurers.
